Our amazing Dad, Jim, died in May last year at the age of 69. He was a loyal, loving, generous man full of craic and with an incredible sparkle in his eye.

Dad suffered from a condition called PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) in the latter years of his life. PSP is a rare neurological, degenerative condition that affects speech, swallow, movement, vision and cognition. In short, it is a devastating illness.

We (Elaine, Paul, Eoin & Fiona) with the help of our incredible support crew (including Mum & Jim's eldest grand-daughter Caitlin) are taking on the Isle of Man Parish Walk and challenging ourselves to complete the 137km/85mile race in 24 hrs to fundraise for PSPA Ireland.

PSPA Ireland provided invaluable support to Jim, Mum and us as a family over a number of years. It’s an incredible charity. We want to play our part in giving back, so that PSPA Ireland can continue to help others who are struggling with the challenge of PSP in memory of Jim.

Why the parish walk? The Parish walk is a 137 km walking race on the Isle of Man that must be completed within 24 hours……. That’s an average of over 5km non stop per hour for 24hours!
Every year 1000+ people start the Parish walk, while the participant completion rate is typically less than 10%!
The rules are simple.....walk the 137km route, touch the church gate of each of the 17 Parishes, complete within 24hours, no running!
Growing up on the Isle of man we were always amazed at the challenge and the uniqueness of the Parish Walk and together we want to take on this challenge to raise money for PSPA Ireland, which provided so much support to Jim while he was sick. It is also an opportunity for us as a family to reconnect with the Isle of Man - a place we lived as a family for many years, loved and have many happy memories.
