I will be taking 24 Hours of Silence on the 24th of July for Samaritans Awareness Day. The Samaritans are a service who have saved my life on a few occasion's throughout my life when things got hard. Even when I just needed a cry or someone to talk to they were always so gentle and caring with their approach. When I saw this pop up as an advert on my Instagram I immediately had the urge to take part and give back to a service who I will forever be in debt to for the help they provided to me.

For people who know me, this might come as a surprise to a lot of you as I am always seen as the bubbly and happy outgoing character that always wants to put a smile on someone's face. As much as this is true, this does not mean that I am happy all the time, and that's ok! I believe that talking about your emotions with your friends and family should be a normal matter, Unfortunately in Ireland the Mental Health system has and continues to fail me. That is why the Samaritans are such a cherished organisation to me. Because whenever all hope felt lost, they were my go to phone call, just to get everything out, to unload all the stress I am feeling.

I also believe that mental health or just having a bad day should be spoken about a lot more with your peers and colleagues, not just your friends. No matter who you are, you are loved and cared for deeply by someone in your life, even if you cant see it because everything is so tough. Trust me when I say, your loved ones would rather you cry on their shoulder for a week, EVEN A YEAR, than losing you for the rest of their life. Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and please know that this does not define my character, it is what makes me the person I am today, and that is something I am very proud of.
