3 workmates with questionable swimming ability but eager for a challenge and to raise funds for the vital services Cancer Care West provides.

The Cause: 

Throughout the course of our lives; either ourselves or someone we love will experience cancer and have to go through the trials and challenges it brings to daily life. Cancer Care West's practical support and therapeutic support services that can make everyday life a little bit easier when cancer turns your world upside down. If you live in the West or North West of Ireland; these are support that you or a loved one may need and use someday.

When you get diagnosed with cancer you'll have to ask yourself questions.

 Questions like; 

"How am I going to get to my chemo or radiotherapy treatments?" 

"The hospital is over 4 hours away from where I live, how am going to manage all this travelling when I'm going to be so low on energy?"

"How do I make sense of the word vomit and acronyms I've just been bombarded with in the 5 minutes conversation with a consultant?"

These are questions Cancer Care West can help you with. If you need help travelling; Cancer Care West provides a bus service from Mayo to Galway. If you're travelling from further away like Donegal they'll get you on a partner cancer bus service. They can organise a place for you to stay at Inis Aoibhinn Monday to Friday. 

Cancer Care West have individual and group support services in Galway and Donegal. 

Money donated puts diesel in that bus that carries patients to treatment. It puts food patients can stomach on the table when their treatment has left them nauseous. It keeps the lights and heating on and washes the linen of the beds patients sleep in at Inis Aoibhinn when they have to travel so far from home for treatment. 

By donating to Cancer Care West you ensure that today somebody who is far from home and fatigued after a radiotherapy or chemo session has a bed to rest on. You're ensuring somebody that doesn't understand what they're facing into has someone to help explain all the terminology to them. You ensure that families and loved ones of somebody diagnosed with cancer can receive emotional support and practical advice.
