Loughrea Athletic Club has been a part of the community of Loughrea since 1968. Reaching the 50th anniversary of the founding of our club in 2018 was a fantastic milestone and achievement and not one that many clubs can claim.
The club has grown from strength to strength over the years and countless athletes, coaches, committee members etc have given their time and abilities to growing and promoting the club.
We are particularly proud of our home and grounds at Bushfield, Loughrea. Bushfield is a facility that is extremely important not just for athletics and members of the Athletic club, but for the wider community of Loughrea. The grounds at Bushfield are also currently used by Loughrea Gaelic Football Club, Loughrea Soccer Club, and Galway Footgolf. Bushfield has never been more in use with countless training sessions, matches, competitions and group activities taking place. The grounds have become a hive of sporting activities.
With that being said it takes a lot of money and resources to keep Bushfield well maintained. An urgent project we must now undertake is to upgrade the road and carparking facilities so that everyone can come and enjoy the facilities at Bushfield in the smoothest, safest way possible. These upgrade works will be expensive and with that in mind, the club is hosting a 12 walkathon in our grounds in Bushfield, starting at 9am on Saturday 25th June and finishing at 9pm on Saturday 25th June. This will be a unique and fun event that people of all ages can enjoy. Come to Bushfield and walk, run, jog or shuffle for as long or as short as you like. We just need to keep things moving for 12 hours! As a business you and your staff may wish to come and participate in pairs or as a group or team. There is no entry fee to participate we are just asking you to donate to the cause. If you do not wish to participate maybe your business could sponsor this unique and fun event! Any help would be greatfully appreciated. The funds generated from the event will help us to achieve our goal to keep an important community facility going .
