On June 15th, 8 members of the Galway Ambulance Service are going to be running, kayaking, cycling and climbing over 60kms of challenging terrain in Mayo as part of this year's Gaelforce West Adventure Race.

In the process, we hope to raise vital funds for the replacement of a through-floor-lift for my niece Grace Harper.

Grace is a fulltime wheelchair user, having acquired her disability as a baby as a result of contracting viral meningitis. Grace lives in a 2 storey house and uses the lift to access the upstairs of her home. This is an essential piece of equipment for Grace, unlike a stair lift, it takes the person and their wheelchair upstairs.

Fundraising is a last resort for Grace's family, but due to a lack of government funding, for the second time in Grace's life, we find ourselves having to ask our wider community for help to provide her with essential supports.
