Many of you out there know James Nolan, as a relative, friend, colleague, team mate, some from way back, when he worked, building, with his Dad, Seamus Nolan.
James & his partner Claragh, have one little girl, Rosie & are expecting their second baby, any day now. They are starting their journey of creating their family unit - making a home, making memories, which should be an exciting time for all.

Unfortunately, earlier last year, James was diagnosed with PPMS (Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis) For those of you who may not know, MS is where the body's immune system, attacks the protective coating of the nerves, it leaves scarring on the brain, spinal cord & optic nerve. It is a progressively, worsening condition - relentless, debilitating & it never gives up! With PPMS there is NO remission.
Treatment for PPMS in Ireland, is a drug called, Ocrevus, it is given twice yearly, intravenously. This, unfortunately, doesn't work for everyone. You never know when the disease will attack, nor which part of the body will be affected, neither do you know, if you will regain use of the part that has been attacked - it's life on a knife edge constantly! PPMS takes away your independence slowly (sometimes not so slowly) everyday!
This has been a hard thing to come to terms with, as is any 'life altering' disease. Harder still when you've a young family to think of. We all feel helpless, wondering how we can help, we feel a sense of frustration and we wonder how we ourselves would feel, if faced with something like this!
Well, for James, there is some hopeful news. He has been accepted for treatment in Russia, which is not available here. This treatment can, and hopefully, will, help to stop PPMS in its tracks & give James a chance of living a normal life again. He could, potentially continue to play an active part in his family life, his community & continue to work in the job he has had for many years, where he knows he can & is, making a difference, however large or small, in people's lives.

This treatment is expensive, it will cost €50,000. Health insurance doesn't cover any of it. So, with the permission of James - his family & extended family, have come together to create this fundraiser, to hopefully help with the cost of treatment & everything associated with it, that could & hopefully will, change the course of his life, to give him & us hope in the future.
He will be in Russia for a month, he then comes home & is in isolation for a month, after that he'll require time to recover his strength. Our hope is that this treatment will put him into remission, as it has done for others. He leaves 7th April. James & Claragh will be adding €10,000 to this, themselves.
