Ollie Byrnes is the author of 12 titles to date – mostly on
hurling and social history - but, having been immersed in music all his life,
this book was inevitable. It contains 450 pages & 250 photographs.
A hundred
musicians have been interviewed - and many of them offered photographs which
have never been seen before. All genres of music will be covered: from the Big
Bands of the early 1950’s, into Skiffle, through the Showbands at Paddy Con’s in
the 1960’s, on into the rock scene, right up to the present time.
Of course Traditional
Irish Music features strongly – reflecting Ollie’s family background in
Comhaltas. There's a section on album & book reviews from over the
years, as well as an overview of the music festivals which took place this last
50 years.
Ennis Musical Society is featured too, as are individual essays by
musicians.
Ollie’s
objective has been to make a written and photographic record of the music of our town
- and county - during our wonderful lifetime.
