The School of Empowering Education
We are a self funded, democratic school in Leitrim. A school where every student feels enough. We cater for children ages 5-18 and follow a sudbury (self directed) philosophy where students choose their own learning day to day. We will be open during mainstream term time, Mon-Thurs 8.30am-4.30pm with our core hours being between 10am-2.30pm. We are opening our doors in September 2023.
We are currently raising funds as a continuous effort to keep fees to minimum for the families who enroll in our non-profit (applying for charitable status) school. We will be holding a number of fundraisers for our school and we hope we can also raise awareness about alternative education in the process.

where your money goes
All money raised for the school will go towards the overall running of the school which includes everything from materials to rent. We are completely self funded as we do not follow a curriculum so we are not state funded. We are a fee paying school so families pay a fee towards their child's education as a way to make our school sustainable. A huge part of our funding process is creating a community of people who believe in an alternative education system where every student feels enough. Even €2 towards our school will mean so much to us because we know it's the beginning of a like minded community and that excites us no end!
history
The school started as a dream and has blossomed into a reality all because of our directors Katrina and Jo who have been there from the beginning. In 2019, a group of families met regularly for rambles in the forest where we made camps and cooked over the open fire. We dreamt of creating a homeschooling co-op and over time began looking into the reality of it. After many hurdles and countless phonecalls and meetings, with Katrina at the helm, The School of Empowering Education was born.
