More about the Ross Nugent Foundation
In July 2010, two months after we lost Ross to a rare form of bone cancer called Ewings Sarcoma, the Ross Nugent Foundation was established. Ross was a very positive and healthy 18 year-old who loved life and was passionate about music, dance, art and enjoying time with his family and friends. The Foundation’s logo is one of Ross’s drawings called, ironically, “The Angel in Pain”. While Ross was in and out of Beaumont Hospital over the 5 months of his treatment, he spoke a lot about what he would do when he recovered to raise money to buy a blood pressure monitor and other equipment to help make life more comfortable for other patients. Unfortunately, he never got that opportunity and so the Foundation was set up in his name. Thanks to the tremendous support that the charity has received, more than 270 pieces of equipment costing in excess of €500,000 have been donated to Beaumont Oncology and Haematology including blood pressure monitors, electric beds, chair beds, wheelchairs, bionic therapy chairs (all 19 of which have been fitted with individual TV monitors), ergonomic stools, bedside lamps, bed tables, laptops and furniture. Recently a room called “The Glade” was completed in Beaumont by the Foundation. This is for cancer patients to use as a place to relax and forget, at least for a while, why they are there. This €35,000 project is designed to create a non-hospital environment to allow people to just chill. The Foundation hopes soon to commence a similar project in Our Lady's Hospital for Children in Crumlin. In May 2018, the Foundation committed €50,000 to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to provide equipment for their day facility and is currently in discussion with the Bon Secours Hospital in Dublin. As a completely voluntary registered charity, every cent raised by or donated to the Foundation goes in its entirety towards achieving the objectives to make life more comfortable for cancer patients, their families and the nursing staff in cancer units in Beaumont and other hospitals. Thank you for your support in helping the Foundation carry out this important work.
